Becoming Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable

Uncomfortability: our tolerance level to change impacts the pace and magnitude of transformation.

Embrace Discomfort

There have been countless times in my life where I found myself feeling uncomfortable (to say the least) and needing to press on regardless.

I’m sure you can relate. There are times where you really wanted something, or maybe you didn’t want something. And that desire fueled your action.

Most things that are uncomfortable, or downright painful, lead to soul expansion opportunities. The catch is this: most expansion happens in hindsight.

But not all!

In that initial moment of discomfort, you have the power to push through it. You might not realize it yet, but you do. The only thing stopping you is not your ability, it’s your desire.

Desire is what motivates all action. Belief and hope are what build momentum.

So when you’re caught in a moment of uncomfortable uncertainty, remember the reason you’re there.

That reason will help you want to push the boundaries of what’s possible. It will make those obstacles feel much easier to overcome.

And let me tell you, the best way to get started is to take a relatively small step that is in the direction you want to go, but not necessarily going all in right away.

Most things we do are intimidating. Honestly! Think about it. What are all the things you do in a year? In the last five years? In the last decade? There have been plenty of things you’ve done that were intimidating but you did them anyway.

And now I’m about to give you a simple framework to use so you can tackle those intimidating things more mindfully. It’s really simple, and it’s applicable to anything you want to do.

Take Small Actions At First

I personally have had lots of successes in my life (big and small) that have resulted in testing the waters first before diving in. I love to dabble with things. It helps me pinpoint what’s actually going to work. I’m sure you’ve dabbled with plenty of things too!

It seems this tactic works well for a lot of people. Gently leaning into the new things that are slightly uncomfortable to get a feel for it before going all the way.

There’s no need to take a bigger step than necessary to see if this level of discomfort would be worth the potential end result for you.

Don’t risk more than you’re willing to lose. Don’t get too uncomfortable too quickly or you may risk burnout. Take a small action that won’t result in anything you’re not willing to lose.

Reflect On The Impact

Once that action is taken, observe the changes that it resulted in. If no changes happened, you didn’t lean far enough into the discomfort.

Because you only took a small action, the impact may be small. Measure it against your personal definition of success or worthiness. What worked? What didn’t? This moves you directly to the next step.

Build and Repeat

At that point, build off what you’ve learned. Maybe you learned you didn’t lean far enough into the discomfort. Maybe you learned you weren’t as interested in something as you thought you were. Or it’s more refined than you once imagined.

That’s when you go back and take action again. Continue to build upon your newfound knowledge and your aversion to risk and discomfort will lessen.

The Paralysis of Inaction

Knowing this framework is great. And I’m sure many of you listening will apply it and think about it later on.

I’m also sure there are many of you who are stuck in the paralysis of inaction. I know this because many of my clients and Facebook group members personally tell me that they aren’t taking action and don’t understand why.

They hear all the advice. They take the coaching and readings to heart. They loved the books. They feel inspired, too. And yet…nothing changes. Why?

If this is you, please do listen closely.

I need you to know that it is OKAY. It is absolutely totally and completely okay to find yourself stuck in inaction. It’s normal. In fact, it’s a sign. A sign that you intuitively understand major transformation is on the horizon and your subconscious response is to not get anywhere near it.

Change is scary for most people. This is why spiritual coaching is so powerful. Getting to the root of the fear of change will help dissolve the habit of inaction. Once you make that very first move, your confidence will soar. And it will get so much easier to keep going! Remember, belief and hope build momentum. Action is the kick that gets the ball rolling.

The Risk of Burnout

If you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum, the core message is still the same.

IT’S OKAY!

It’s absolutely totally and completely okay to feel the incessant need to take action and “be productive.” If that’s you, and you still haven’t manifested your dream life, you may be in the midst of burnout.

Burnout is what happens when there’s a complete lack of harmony between rest and action. Specifically, when there’s too much action for the amount of rest needed for said action.

So the risk of burnout is real. It’s the result of leaning too far into the discomfort.

To truly improve and achieve sustainable growth throughout the entire period of discomfort, it’s best to maintain a steady pace. The focus is meant to be on the journey and the feelings it evokes, rather than how long it takes. Trying to force a certain outcome won’t make it come sooner, if at all.

What does this all mean for manifesting?

Leaning gently into discomfort is how we move between the four manifesting phases.

The uncomfortable feelings are highlighting exactly what we need to look at.

This is what I call your manifesting ceiling. It’s uncomfortable being in a box, so the Universe shows you where to push in order to break out.

Whatever resonated with you in this post, pick it up and examine it closely. That is your key to busting through your manifesting ceiling. Tap into that while you’re moving through that awkward, uncomfortable phase. Over time, it won’t feel so awkward!
